The first person came to mind as an influencer will have to be Russell Simmons. The reason why I consider him as an influencer for the simple reason of his powerful influence in the hip-hop culture since the late 1970’s that has integrated into the mainstream American Culture as a entirely new, post-racial, progressive new America. His groundbreaking vision has influenced music, fashion, finance, television and film, as well as the face of modern philanthropy. Russell Simmons was also recently, named him one of the “Top 25 Most Influential People of the Past 25 Years,” calling him a “hip-hop pioneer.”

    1. I almost forgot about Russell being an influencer and he was definitely a major one. I still remember his "Def Comedy Jam" show. He has definitely influenced pretty much every industry and should continue to be recognized for it I mean without him you wouldn't have the evolution of hip hop music or groups such as the Beastie Boys & Run DMC.

Of course I was compelled to choose an influencer of the Fashion world, I chose Anna Wintour. Anna Wintour is the editor of Vogue magazine, she is the "it" of the Fashion world and is considered to be the most important factor of it. She is a fashion icon & fashion powerhouse. She has been featured as #21 of the "Top 100 Most Influential People of Fashion." She was said to have been the woman that revived "Vogue Magazine" and she's also said to have been responsible for bringing seminal exposure to some of the biggest trends of the past twenty years. As stated in the article Anna "influences the unsuspecting consumers about what they wear, how they shop and what celebrity or cause is about to be the talk of the town." She is the mastermind behind "Fashion's Night Out" that began in 2009 giving department stores and designers the opportunity to showcase their goods through lavish evening parties mixing celebrities and consumers and once in a year sales basically creating a yearly fashion holiday!

"If you look at any great fashion photograph out of context, it will tell you just as much about what's going on in the world as a headline in the New York Times." - Anna Wintour

One influencer I could think of is Perez Hilton. Years ago, the go-to celebrity gossip and fashion updates came from trashy tabloids or Entertainment Tonight. Based on the article, his blog is read by millions as he is the most visible and most active online. His blog is read by millions and has already millions on that alone. In 2010 his blog has average 260 million page views per month. Once he had 13.9 million views in a week. His stories are fed to TMZ from PerezHilton.com

Because of his blog, Perez has expanded his brand to other media platforms and businesses such as
shows (PerezTV), radio shows (RadioPerez), clothing line (Perezious Collection), book deal, and two other related blogs (one fashion – Coco Perez, one health – Fit Perez) linked to PerezHilton.com.

    1. It's amazing how far he has come with drawing perverted images all over celebrity pictures. Also amazes me how he has so many gigs from speaking the truth. If you like Perez Hilton check out www.dlisted.com

    Proenza Schouler

Proenza Schouler is the name of a New York based womenswear brand created. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez are the designers behind Proenza, and in only 10 years they have achieved a level of success that has taken most major labels 25 + years. Their first collection was actually their senior thesis at Parsons' School of Design. They established themselves in a little shop in New York, where a buyer from Barneys' bought their collection to sell at the New York department store. In 2004 they won the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund award that not only provided them with capital for their business, but also afforded them the opportunity to mentor under an established designer of their choosing. As of today, they have their own boutiques, collections at most high-end department stores, and celebrity endorsements out the wazoo (yes, that is a technical term).
They are influencers because they have paved the way for young designers. They remained true to themselves and never worked for anybody else. They've done things their own way, with their own money. They have proved that age is nothing but a number and there is no better reward for determination than success.

Michael Jackson has influenced people in so many ways. He gave the world so much love and warmth through his music and humanitarian work. He enriched the lives of so many people. Not only with his talented music, but with his immense generosity as well. He had unconditional love for the people, children, planet earth and animals. Love was at the very heart of Michael's message, and that branched out to include peace, hope and healing. He accomplished that through using his gift of entertainment, as well as through his humanitarian and philanthropic efforts. There were always messages in his lyrics he was trying to convey to the world.

Bob Marley is a great influencer. He came around when a lot of people in the world was looking at Rastafari to be useless and unclean. He rose above all sterotypes and made songs to lift up black people in a time when they needed it the most. He gave the world something to live for through the power of his music.

Youtube is also jumping into the TV networks and created a lot of different portals for broadcast companies to use as a sneak peek or advertisement for they season.

YouTube LLC was sold to Google for $1.65 Billion and now operates as an app under Google.com. Personally I think this has captured the world and has become an informational portal for any and all viewing pleasure.

Edward bernays was one of the influencers of the beginning of the century .He used ways to influence people by using strategies aimed at keeping the public unconscious of the forces that were working to mold their minds. The then big companies and the governments wanted to catch the attention of the public and bernays saw how he impacted everyone by using Public relations and propaganda.A power that began the field of Advertising. This is what we continue to use to get the attention of the public but with technology all is evolving.

  9. I most definitely think Michael Jackson has to be at the top of my list. He not just influenced the US but he influenced the WORLD!! Michael Jackson touched people not just through music but through fashion and kindness as well. I would say he was the 80s. He created new trends and styles that we still see today and will see forever. He also found new ways of marketing his self to the world.

  10. Out of all the advertisers and graphic designers I have come by, Paula Scher is who influences me the most.

    http://www.adcglobal.org/archive/hof/1998/?id=317

She strives to be different which I completely go along with. But when she finds something different that she's good at she'll only do it until people start copying here. After that, she changes her style completely and still does amazing work. I would find that very difficult to change my style after I become successful but she does.
