Week 3 Article - Find and unexpected social media site...
“Find an unexpected social media site.” Something like Pinterest or my example of Digg below. That you believe is an "untapped" resource. Some site that exists but might not be as mainstream as Pinterest and Facebook...YET. Also discuss why you think it is an untapped resource and why it might take off in the future.
Post a link to your article for in-class discussion week 4; with a brief summary of the content of the article.
Review and comment on the articles of two other students by the end of the week. (Week 4)
Sorry about class tonight, but just to get this week started out right, here is the article for this week.
ReplyDeleteHere is a site called "digg" that I mentioned.
http://digg.com/
Once again, like reddit, seems to be a mesh of a tons of articles and information.
Here is an article on how Toyota used it for brand exposure.

imagespak.com
ReplyDeletei think this is site that hasnt been discovered . It has the pinterest feel but a bit different .check it out
I wasn't able to view this site, but, if it has the same concept as pinterest then it's probably a great site as well.
DeleteI'm sorry i didn't realize the link wasn't correct
Deletehttp://www.imgspark.com/
here it is again
http://technorati.com/
ReplyDeleteIt's a blog site like about.com and stuff like that.
http://mashable.com/2009/09/06/technorati-bloggers/
The article says that is once was the go to search for blogs but personally I've never heard of it. It has a lot of good information on how to's, personal opinions and some amateur research.
interesting site. you can find just about anything people question about health to mortgages and recent news.
Deletehttp://www.stumbleupon.com/about
ReplyDeleteStumbleUpon is a social media site that helps you easily discover new and interesting stuff on the Web by telling them what you like, and they will introduce you to amazing web pages, videos, photos and more that you wouldn’t have found on your own. Why I think it may take off in the future because easier way of having someone else do the research for you.
That's a pretty nice website I like the stumble upon aspect of it. Stumble upon a new place, adventure, or even a book. I may subscribe to this one just to check out new places.
DeleteI love the idea of being able to discover things you might not have found on your own. I just subscribed to it and it's already shown me some interesting sites.

ReplyDeletePolyvore:
ReplyDeleteMost fashion students (and students of fashion know about Polyvore. It's main purpose is for people interested in fashion to create collages with favorite looks, future purchases, dream purchases, and looks for others (mainly celebrities). You can choose from thousands of products available in their database or import your own (I still haven't learned that). Any collages you create can be exported to Photoshop, Twitter, Blogger, Facebook, and Polyvore itself. Other members can comment on your boards, give suggestions, and create things for you. Great for people who want to discuss their sense of style.
http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/about
P.S: Props to myself for remembering to post my website before I was reminded in class.
I believe this resource should be tapped by others outside the fashion community. It's well known within the community, but not outside. The collage feature may well work for others who need to create collages for different projects and are horrible with scissors and glue (like I am).
DeleteI've been using Polyvore for most of my requirements in class. This has been a very helpful tool for fashion students like me. I'm not savvy when in comes to photoshop or illustrator and using Polyvore is very easy and convenient.
DeleteI'm a fashion student and i've never used Polyvore. Now that I know we can use them in our portfolios I need to start using it.
DeletePingram
ReplyDeletehttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/12/pingram-new-social-networ_n_1338737.html
Pingram is a combination of pinterest and instagram. Users of instagram can now upload photos to pinterest boards. Being the two latest popular social media sites, Pingram has the potential of going mainstream. People enjoy sharing images and products on pinterest while instagram has been the latest craze in taking photos. This is exclusive to instagram images having an interface that is very similar to pinterest. It's very convenient for instagram photographers to share their photos directly to the new social media site.
By the way, here's the link to Pingram: http://www.pingram.me/ which is still on beta mode.
Delete"MEET UP"
ReplyDeletewww.meetup.com
This website is where you start a group and can also find a group in a specific zipcode/city/state that share similar interest and meet up with each other. In my opinion its almost like a dating website in a sense because where you meet someone online you share the same or common interest and go on a date, well meet & greet to share and explore common interest.
the lay out is nice!
Deleteheard of meet up years ago . But it has grown so much since then and its great for networking
Deletewww.orkut.com
ReplyDeleteThis site has been around since digg but I never heard of it. It's a lot like a facebook or myspace but it's run by google. Not really a revolutionary concept. It's less popular in the United States but it's one of the most visited websites in India and Brazil. It could be a good tool for businesses trying to tap into an international market.
I'll make a page:)
Deletewhen they ask for your age they apologize for asking for your birthdate
Deleteits just like older myspace
Deletewww.wearehunted.com
ReplyDeleteis a online music chart/radio/center. It has emerging artist and mainstream artist. I feel the radio is constantly over playing music. The site gets updated quite often and theres always new upcoming artist to discover! You can also create your own playlist. Also if there is a genre of music you like you play the radio only is that mix. You can place it on shuffle if you want to mix up for last updated to newly release music on the site. I love it!
I feel this same way about the over playing of the same music on the radio. This kinda of remind me of Pandora. I also love that you can discover new artist.
Deletehttp://www.justsync.com/
ReplyDeleteblah blah just a test! :)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.trendhunter.com/ is a social media platform where users can upload links and photos to new and cutting edge ideas or products etc.
ReplyDeletehttp://knowem.com/websites/all/
I also found this really neat website that allows you to search through several social media channels to see the availability of your specific user name. It also shows you the most popular social media websites according to many specific categories.
http://klout.com/home
This is a veryyyyyyy useful website....i love it. This website calculates what they call a Klout Score. This score measures influence based on your ability to drive action. Every time you create content or engage you influence others. The Klout Score uses data from social networks in order to measure: True Reach: How many people you influence
Amplification: How much you influence them
Network Impact: The influence of your network
This website also over a period of time depending on your score and interactiveness grants you perks that you can claim for example a pack of business cards and so on.
As far as klout, I know a lot of FM students that are required to make an account with this company. I look at it as a great marketing tool or network marking.
Deletewww.Deviant.com
ReplyDeleteI came across this website while looking for illustrators in the field. The site is a place for any design students or freelance to post their work and have people comment, download and even purchase. For students this is a great way for exposure and to put your work out there. It has become a socially acceptable place to upload personal mixed media. I personally feel this this was a great idea and now they are allowing customers, such as myself to buy artist work and have it printed in many ways. I bought a poster off some artist out of LA and had it printed and framed. It was shipped and turn out to be the conversation piece of my whole house. I use this to research different mediums in my field and I am never disappointed of what I find.
www.goodreads.com
ReplyDeleteI first discover this social media network when I joined wordpress.com. At first, I didn't understand the purpose of this site. But now I get it. It just a site where people come together and discuss there favorite book. It is like a virtual book club. I think this website is untapped because not a lot of people are reading anymore, or at least not reading books. This generation has the lowest attention span because of the blogs and internet articles. If it's not 300 words or less, we loos the audience.
